Digital products are frequently sold using the language of ownership while operating like temporary permission.
A person pays the full price, presses a purchase button and builds a library. The platform may still retain the power to remove access, close the service or change the rules afterward.
Convenience has made this arrangement feel normal. It should not be normal.
Meaningful digital ownership should include durability, reasonable transfer rights, offline access where technically possible and a clear plan for what happens when the original service ends.
Creators and companies deserve protection against fraud and unlimited copying. That does not require pretending a customer owns something while designing the system so the ownership can disappear remotely.
A fair system protects creators without converting every customer into a permanent renter.
